At The Pencil Tin we strongly believe that having a multi-disciplinary or ‘generalist’ ethos can often bring a new perspective and fresh insights to many ‘specialist’ desires and needs. Therefore we are happy to offer our skills, experience and ‘design thinking’ to collaboratively explore ideas and propose solutions to problems across a broad range of client requirements. We believe that having a minimal budget need not be a constraint to realising big ideas. Look at our news page for examples of recent projects.
Our areas of consultancy include:
support + guidance
Every year, thousands of enthusiastic young creators embark upon their HSC, Visual Arts or Design & Technology, Major Work projects. For many, it will be the first time in their lives that they have undertaken a project of this scale, and with such an open creative brief. For some this is liberating, for others it can present a burden. Our Major Work Mentoring service helps to bring clarity, enjoyment and a heightened sense of achievement to this exciting opportunity. design + make
Do you have some half-formed notions for a personal furniture project or a desire to take a handmade product to the markets, but feel it needs an independent designer’s eye to optimise your success? Maybe we can help with final form resolution, or ‘outside the square’ materials or construction suggestions?
display + exhibit
With 25 years of experience in designing for the cultural sector, we can advise on everything from optimising display of personal collections to assisting local history museums and commercial galleries, or promoting bespoke products and interpretive exhibits of cultural material and artworks.
visual + performing arts
Did you want some ideas on how to transform your ‘empty stage’ into a dynamic environment for both the performers and audience alike? Did you want to showcase your graduate students’ or arts/crafts association members’ work with just a little more than sterile rows of peg-board screens?
home + office
We can help you maximise and up-cycle your existing spaces and possessions with elegant simplicity, rather than invest in short-lived ‘styles’ or ‘fashions.’ Often, just rethinking how you arrange and use your furniture and spaces can both make them more functional, plus feel new and enticing once more.
textiles + graphics
Bold patterns, delicate stripes, florals, geometrics, illustrative, abstract, colour and monochromatic, yardages and placements. If it can be printed on cloth or paper there’s not much we haven’t had experience with or acquired knowledge of. We’re here to share our valuable insights and lessons to help you transform your visions into reality.
+ still more ...
We believe that there are really very few things in life that can’t be improved with some rationally considered strategies or a bunch of deliberately ‘left of centre’ brain-stormed ideas. Why not ask us and see?
